Louise “The Fish” Update

Aloha Trout Unlimited members

I wanted to share with you an email that I received from my good friend Louie “The Fish” over in Maine and some pictures he sent to share with everyone.

Aloha guys!
I just returned from the east coast with a buddy here also from Hawaii. He got us a special invite to fish a remote camp/lodge in Maine called King and Bartlett Camps, with two small lakes, 20 ponds and a stream on 100,000 acres of private forest. We fished from nice boats in the biggest lake in front of the lodge. In about 3 days fishing, last 3 open season in September, us two landed maybe 40 big all wild Brook trout, most averaging 3- 4 pounds, my biggest in photo is about 5. Brookies all catch and release only, any Lake trout, some over 15-20 pounds, you catch you must kill. I think the main lake, King Lake, has the biggest trout. The open season starts about May I think!

We both used shooting tapers, type 6, with Amnesia backing, 6 pound flouro rod length leader, fished in about 20 to 40 foot depths, and my best flies were all long fiber marabou leech with 3.5 mm red tungsten bead head, brown, olive or black, tied on #8 barbless wide gap jig hooks.

Their rates differ if you bring your own food and drinks stuff, starting at $250 a day, boats included! They like small groups…we were 9 in all. Brook trout is my favorite, lots of mystery, gorgeous colors, and great fighters! I highly recommend this great place!

Tightlines-

Louie the Fish!
