A Message from our President

Aloha Hawaii Trout Unlimited Members,

As we approach another potential State lock down due to COVID-19, it is a good time to reach out so we can stay connected in these troubled times.  I hope all our members and their families are healthy and coping the best we can in the current environment.  I have no doubt it has hampered many fishing trips and adventures but at least you can get caught up on tying flies and filling those fly boxes.

These last six months have meant a number of cancellations for our club.  Besides not having any monthly meetings, we discontinued our fly tying classes, were not able to teach keiki fly fishing skills, and for the first time in eight years were not able to take our annual trip into the Waialae Stream on Kauai. On a positive note, we were able to gain some new members on the Island of Kauai and Deane was able to make it over to the cabin in Kokee between interisland quarantines.

With COVID-19 causing uncertainty in the future, we do have an opportunity to keep in contact and communicate about the great sport of fishing that we all love.  Our Trout Unlimited, Waikahe Olu Chapter website is alive and well.  Deane and the programmers have put lots of time and energy into the system.  This is a great tool for us to communicate with each other.  The site is at https://tuhi.org.  If you go to “Fishing” and then “Catch of the Day” on the site you can post pictures of your great trips and those big fish.  Let’s see if we can get some pictures posted for everyone to enjoy.

While we don’t know what the future holds, we will remain optimistic that we will be back on our favorite waters soon and meeting face to face as a club once more.  If you need to reach me, please email me at [email protected].   Let’s stay in touch and please check out our TU website.
