Aloha Trout Unlimited members – I just returned from Gaines Pennsylvania – I had not returned to my “old stomping grounds” for 4 years due to the insanity of the “pandemic” that forced the nation into “lock-down”.
No other members of our Trout Unlimited Chapter could make this trip with me so it was a solo adventure back to the East Coast. Gaines, Pennsylvania is so isolated that whole mess did not affect the general area very much.
I spent 16 days fishing Pine Creek and reconnecting with local friends. I also helped Fred Hollar, President of the “Upper Pine Creek Sportsman’s Association” re-stock Pine Creek with some HUGE Rainbow and Brown Trouts. I was also able to hunt for wild turkey and dodging black bears. Who can’t say life is not exciting.
I spent my first week in PA staying with friends in the mountain cabin and the 2nd week at the Rough Cut Lodge. The weather in that part of the USA can range from 3-4 days of rain to blue skies and morning temperatures down in the 20’s. I experienced all of that, which is quite a big difference from our normal Hawaiian weather conditions. It was an “Adjustment” process to say the least.
Our Trout Unlimited chapter here in Hawaii has supported the UPCSA for many years. We are the ONLY Trout Unlimited chapter in the USA that supports a non-profit “fishing Organization” that stocks Trout with funding out of their own pocket, so the general public can have a fishing experience on Pine Creek, in Gaines, PA.
Here are some photos of the trip.
